A grand Victorian mansion escape in rural East Sussex, with three-course dinner and late check-out
Ah, the high life. Fine dining in elegant surrounds, comfortable bedrooms with quality linen and all-mod cons, croquet on the lawn. When it comes to living it up in the Sussex countryside, Horsted Place does a fabulous job of pairing refined old-school glamour with contemporary comforts and outstanding service.
From the outside, it’s pretty much a lord and lady’s dream of Victorian Gothic architecture – grand, stately and impressive. But inside the stunning mansion beats a heart of warm hospitality, with an inviting fire-lit drawing room, a sumptuous dining room served by an award-winning chef, and cosy accommodations.
Once you’ve recharged, head out for a game of tennis on the hotel’s own court, or indulge in a pampering session at the nearby Horsted Health Club. Of course, with the hotel overlooking two championship courses this is a great place to cultivate a golf habit, but if that sounds too taxing then simply wander round the grounds at your leisure. Fans on TripAdvisor, which awarded it a coveted Certificate of Excellence, particularly praise the hotel’s amazing afternoon tea.
Good to know
The hotel does not allow children under the age of seven years.
Dinner guests are asked to observe a smart-casual dress code.
Please be aware that afternoon tea must be pre-booked at least 24 hours in advance. Discounted golf at East Sussex National Hotel is available but must also be pre-booked (please pre-book locally).
Dining in an aristocratic setting in the elegant but friendly restaurant
