An enchanting tour of intriguing Jordan with desert camp and Red Sea stays - including half board, all travel and tours
Jordan, a land of deep red deserts, stunning archaeological sites and a significant history stretching back over millennia, is a must-see destination. On this 10-night adventure, you'll stroll through modern Amman, tour ancient Desert Castles, discover the healing properties of the Dead Sea and travel by 4x4 through the Wadi Rum Desert, all before soaking up the coral reefs and colourful sea life of the Red Sea in Aqaba.
Your tour starts in Jordan's capital, Amman, a modern and cosmopolitan city with a chic, contemporary culinary scene sitting alongside chaotic souks. With a city tour, you'll explore the Temple of Aphrodite and the Roman Theatre amongst other must-sees, before visiting Jerash to witness the best-preserved examples of Roman civilisation and an outstanding example of Islamic military architecture at Ajloun Castle, a fortress built in 1185 and rebuilt in the 13th century. You'll spend another day here bobbing around in the Dead Sea - the lowest point of the earth, with buoyant waters ten times saltier than regular ocean water.
Next, you'll head to Petra, visiting the Mosaic city of Madaba - where the oldest map of the Holy Land exists - Mount Nebo and Shobak Castle en-route. A full-day tour of Petra will see you visit the most important and representative monuments that have been sculpted into the rock, including the Treasury (which was used as a setting in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) and the Royal Tombs. You’ll also visit ‘Little Petra’, a narrow gorge that’s rife with typical Nabatean architecture, before some time discovering the moon-like terrain of Wadi Rum. Explore this unusual landscape with a 4x4 excursion that will take you over the rich red sands, and towards an evening dinner under the stars in a remote desert camp.
It's then time to truly unwind and chillax with three nights by the Red Sea in Aqaba. With beaches great for windsurfing and other water sports, the area is also a popular destination for avid scuba divers, with notable dive sites including the Yamanieh coral reef and the so-called 'Japanese Garden' diving area, one of the most beautiful coral reefs on the Jordanian coast of the Red Sea. One final night back in Amman will complete the tour, before your flight home.
