A classic country manor stay in County Durham set on lush green grounds, with optional Family room - includes breakfast, dinner, prosecco and more

Beautiful County Durham is a magical part of north east England, with the area around Sedgewick among the most attractive. A longstanding historic landmark in the area, Hardwick Hall Hotel is set amid 120 acres of the rolling Hardwick Country Park – a lovely landscaped expanse dating back to the 19th century. Its picturesque surrounds make it a favourite venue for weddings and events, with the park’s ornamental lakes and crumbling follies the perfect setting for romantic strolls. The hotel has been awarded a coveted TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the past five years and it’s easy to see why.

Roll up and you are greeted by an imposing stone-built country manor dating back to 1750, with various additions over the years bringing guest accommodation up to modern standards. The building’s original features have been sensitively brought to the fore with careful interior design that’s a well-thought out blend of old and new, with a number of creative touches adding just that little bit extra. Individually-decorated and styled guest rooms are havens of luxury, some with rolltop baths, four-poster beds and bespoke furniture that create a decidedly high-end feel. Expect classic modern British fare in the cosy wood-beamed restaurant and locally-sourced steaks in the Rib Room. Those staying over a weekend may catch one of the regular shows or concerts that are held in the hotel’s large ballroom.
