An atmospheric stay at an award-winning Elizabethan lodge with stunning gardens and a Michelin restaurant, including breakfast and optional dinner allowance

Great Fosters in Egham is a gracious, resplendent example of a Royal Elizabethan hunting lodge set in no less than 50 acres, including a 14th-century barn and a Saxon moat. A stone’s throw from Windsor and conveniently located within easy reach of Heathrow, this Grade I listed building oozes romance and ageless splendour.

Four centuries of history are exquisitely preserved with small details, like mullioned windows, Jacobean fireplaces, a rich oakwell staircase, genuine tapestries and sculpted ceilings. The combined talents of W H Romaine-Walker and Gilbert Jenkins at the turn of the 20th century are clear to see as you stroll through the incredible grounds, with their neat hedges, labyrinth garden and archery pavilion. With a fragrant rose garden, a Japanese bridge dripping with wisteria, a grassed amphitheatre, a lake and two secret gardens, you will find serenity and the perfect place to retreat.

An ideal setting for a romantic weekend away, or simply a quiet, English holiday, you can wander through the 50 acres of gorgeous grounds, paying a visit to the famous cottage garden beehives, which produce delicious heather-rich honey. Don’t forget to say hello to the hotel’s newest residents - a family of rare breed middle white pigs. When you've worked up an appetite you've two, excellent restaurants to discover - one has two AA Rosettes to its name whilst the other holds a Michelin star.
