A five-star hideaway with a private beach and spa on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, in the historic town of Cesenatico – includes breakfast, one-time spa access and more

A historic gem with a rich history, Cesenatico sits pretty on Italy’s Adriatic Coast in the sleepy region of Emilia-Romagna, around 30 kilometres south of Ravenna. A postcard-pretty historical centre gives a nod to Cesenatico’s past as a fishing village, but the undisputed jewel in the town’s crown is Canal Harbour, designed by none other than Leonardo da Vinci himself.

Views of this underrated masterpiece act as a backdrop to Grand Hotel da Vinci, with some rooms and suites framing iconic harbour views. But if sea vistas are more your bag, head to the hotel’s La Spiaggia restaurant, which spills out onto a panoramic terrace overlooking the hotel’s private beach and Adriatic beyond. Elsewhere, an a la carte restaurant reworks traditional recipes with a modern spin, while a laid-back pool bar serves light bites and drinks for lounging sun-seekers.

For respite from the balmy Italian sun, head to the Dolce Vita Spa for personalised face and body treatments using natural products, along with downtime in the indoor pool and relaxation area with padded loungers. There’s a couple’s suite with a Turkish bath, whirlpool and twin treatment beds if you want all the romantic vibes.
