Stay at a charming Georgian hotel with whisky bar in the Scottish Highlands, near Thurso - with full Scottish breakfast, optional three-course dinner, and late check-out
For those who fancy a jaunt in the Scottish Highlands, this four-star Georgian pile ticks the boxes for gracious hospitality, low-key luxury, and a glorious setting in 20 acres of woodland on a loop of the River Forss. It’s also just a short hop from Thurso - the most northerly town in mainland Scotland where incredible views are dominated by the distant cliffs of Dunnet Head to the northeast and Hoy (one of the breathtakingly beautiful Orkney Islands) to the north.
Built in 1810, this former family home of adventurer, hunter, and renowned falconer Major Radclyffe comes with eager-to-please staff, an excellent malt whisky bar, an attractive conservatory, and just 14 comfortable and characterful guest rooms. But the pièce de résistance is the restaurant, a superb 2 AA Rosette dining space that showcases fresh, seasonal, locally-sourced and exceptional cuisine - much of which has been given a unique Highlands twist.
