An unforgettable tour through stunning Uzbekistan taking in ancient architecture and religious wonders - including breakfast, tours and all travel
Discover exotic Uzbekistan in the heart of central Asia, with this eight-night tour that takes in the stunning mosques, ancient castles, bazaars and vibrant cities of the Silk Road. It all kicks off in the country's charismatic capital Tashkent, where you'll spend one night and your first day visiting the city's old town and its magnificent array of ancient Madrasas spread across the city. With an afternoon exploring one of central Asia's largest and oldest bazaars, take in seven huge domes covered with colourful ceramic tiles and an enticing array of fruit, vegetables and other local produce.
It's then onwards to UNESCO World Heritage site Khiva, where you'll stay for two nights and discover the impressive sand-coloured fortress of Kunya Ark Castle and the beautifully ornate Tash Hovli Palace, covered in blue majolica tiles. You'll see one of the best works of Khivian architecture - the Mausoleum of Pahlavan Mahmud - and enjoy some free time at leisure to take in plenty more architectural wonders across this stunning city. Next day, you'll cross the Kizil-Kum desert and see the historic Amudaria river en route to Bukhara, where you'll stay for two nights and enjoy an extensive city tour, taking in many religious sites and architectural feats.
From Bukhara, transfer to the city of Samarkand for one night to discover the ancient Registan Square on a city tour. Admire spectacular madrasas of the XV-XVII centuries including Ulugbek, Shir-Dor and Tilla-Kori and explore the tomb of Tamerlane - a Turco-Mongol conqueror. Next day, you'll visit a handful of other cultural gems including the 15th-century Ulugbek Observatory, before boarding a high-speed train that will glide you back into Tashkent for your final two nights. Back in Uzbekistan's capital, take an optional morning tour to visit the History Museum of Uzbekistan and the White Mosque, before returning home the following day.
Good to know
Your outbound flight may arrive very late in the evening, or in the early hours of the following morning, so two nights have been allocated to your first hotel in Tashkent. However, you may only require one night's accommodation, depending on your arrival time.
