Portland

An exciting eastern USA city-hopping holiday taking in New York, Boston and Portland, with incredible optional excursions, all travel and intercity trains

Gear up for the best of the Stars and Stripes during this incredible multi-centre journey down America’s eastern coast. From iconic New York, you’ll then head to Boston, a patriotic town older than America itself, before ending your adventure in too-cool Portland. You’ll travel by Amtrak train between the three cities too, for an authentic all-American experience.

You’ll start your trip in New York City, an impossibly glamorous and exciting destination with an incredible skyline jigsaw of skyscrapers and Art Deco spires that gleam by day and glitter by night. The Big Apple’s best is at your fingertips from Stewart Hotel, whether you set off on foot, grab a taxi or take advantage of the subway lines at nearby Penn Station’s stop. Many of the city’s iconic destinations are within a few blocks of your Seventh Avenue address: Koreatown’s restaurants; the Museum at FIT’s exhibits; Times Square’s lights; and the Empire State Building’s viewing decks, to name a few. For the ultimate experience, opt to visit Top of the Rock for breathtaking birds-eye views, or pay your respects to the Statue of Liberty on a tour.

Next up is a three-night stay at Boston Park Plaza, a Back Bay getaway with an enviable location and a local destination in its own right. This sleek, glamorous spot has been making the news since it opened in 1927 as The Statler Hotel, the world’s then eighth largest, most recently completing a $100 million renovation that landed it in both the Globe and the Herald. The results of this update aren’t so shabby, either – the pushing-90 property looks as good as new, with diamond-shaped cage chandeliers in its lobby and glossy tech additions in every guestroom. During your stay, opt to enjoy a dose of history with a visit to Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.

You'll wind up in the vibrant port town of Portland, Maine, where your final nights will be spent at the chic Portland Harbour Hotel, with its sleek, nautical-inspired interiors. When you aren’t experiencing the energy of the city’s Downtown district, touring scenic Casco Bay or visiting stunning Victoria Manion, discover the treasures of the Old Port District, which is right on the doorstep of your stylish base. Fresh, local Maine seafood is served up in the hotel’s contemporary restaurant, while the spacious guestrooms show off coastal themes and an exquisitely quaint vibe.
