Discover the spiritual core of one of the world’s most charismatic countries, Nepal. First up is the charismatic capital of Kathmandu, where you'll have some free time to explore the city upon arrival. You'll take a tour of temple-filled Bhaktapur, discovering The Royal Palace and its impressive entrance door, which is embossed with beautiful art.

Heading onwards to Chitwan National Park, you'll take an excursion through one of the richest parks in Asia, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Discover prehistoric trees, twisting vines and a host of local wildlife including rhinos, elephants, crocodiles and pythons.

Next, you'll take in beautiful Himalayan views at your accommodation in Pokhara, situated just a five-minute walk from Phewa Lake – the largest lake in Pokhara. You'll get the chance to take a boat ride across the lake and see the beautiful Devi Waterfall and the Sacred Cave of Gupteshwor, before heading back to Kathmandu for a night.

It's on to Nagarkot next, a village nestled in the mountains that's famous for its stunning views over the Himalayas. Whilst here, you'll take guided walks in the hills surrounding Nagarkot to take in the beautiful scenery. Then, you'll spend your final night back in Kathmandu, squeezing in visits to Boudhanath – one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal – and Pashupatinath Temple, before moving on to Bhutan.

Your first stop is Thimphu, the capital city which is located in a verdant valley. A city tour will see you visiting the King's memorial and a craft centre – known for its traditional arts, as well as Changgangkha Monastery the National Institute of Tree Medicines, the Paper Factory and two of Thimphu's most exquisite traditional Dzongs.

Punakha's up next, where you'll visit Dzong Punakha – the imposing winter residence of the spiritual leader of Bhutan and thought to be one of the most beautiful constructions in the country. Then, you'll move on to Paro, where you'll make the pilgrimage to the famous Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff overlooking the outstanding natural landscape. Soak in the unique atmosphere then head back to Kathmandu for the night, before heading home.

Itinerary

Day 1: Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Kathmandu.

Day 2: Arrive in Kathmandu, where you'll check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3: Today, visit Bhaktapur ('the city of the devotees') – a declared World Heritage Site. Visit the Royal Palace, the Nyatapola Temple and the Changu Narayan Temple – the oldest temple in the Kathmandu Valley. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 4: Head to the Kathmandu Valley through Asan Tole, discovering rich Nepalese culture and everyday life along the bustling narrow streets and courtyards. Visit Durbar Square and, in the afternoon, explore Swayambhunath Stupa and enjoy the views over the valley. Later, discover the old city of Patan and its own Durbar Square – the oldest of the three in the valley. See the Royal Palace and the Temple of the Living Goddess Kumari. You'll also have the option to take a Mount Everest flight-seeing excursion – a one-hour long sightseeing experience on a fixed-wing aircraft (£199 per person). Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 5: Transfer by road to Chitwan. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and, in the afternoon, visit the villages of Tharu to learn of local life, culture and traditionas, such as the Tharu Stick dance. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 6
: Take an excursion into Chitwan National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the towering prehistoric trees and vines, as well as the wildlife, which includes rhinos, elephants, crocodiles, pythons, deer and Bengal tigers. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 7: Transfer by road to Pokhara, visiting the hilltop settlement of Bandipur Village en route, which holds a living museum of Newar culture. Arrive in Pokhara and enjoy the views of the Himalayas and the mountains Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machapuchare as well as the five peaks of Annapurna. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 8: Watch the sunrise over the Himalayas from Sarangkot (weather permitting) before taking a boat ride on Phewa Lake to see the beautiful Devi Waterfall and to explore the Sacred Cave of Gupteshwor. Continue to the traditional Old Bazaar or Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 9: Head back to Kathmandu by road, where you'll spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 10: Set off for Nagarkot by road, a village nestled in the mountains that's famed for its amazing views of the Himalayas. Arrive at the hotel and check in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Nagarkot.

Day 11: Watch the sunrise over the Himalayas (weather permitting) before taking a guided walk through the hills surrounding Nagarkot. Overnight in Nagarkot.

Day 12: Head back to Kathmandu by road. Upon arrival, take a guided visit to Bouddhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world and icon of Nepal, and Pashupatinath - a Hindu Temple on the east bank of the river. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 13: Transfer to the airport to catch a flight to Paro in Bhutan. Transfer to Thimphu, the country's capital that's located in a verdant valley. Arrive at the hote, check in and enjoy dinner. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 14: Take a tour of Thimphu, visiting the spectacular Memorial Chorten and the Craft Centre School. In the afternoon, visit Changgangkha Monastery to see the iconic prayer wheel and the radio tower, before exploring the National Institute of Tree Medicines, the Paper Factory and the Tashicho Dzong and Simtokha Dzong. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 15: Set off towards Punakha, walking along the stunning Dochula Pass en route. Arrive in Punakha and visit Dzong Punakha, before visiting a Buddhist temple that's dedicated to fertility – the Chimi Lhakhang. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 16: Head towards Paro, visiting Wangdue Dzong and Semthoka Dzong en route. Visit the Drukgyel Dzong and walk amongst the ruins of this ancient fortress, before discovering the temples of Kichu Lhakhang. Overnight in Paro.

Day 17: Visit the famous Taktsang Monastery, known as the Tiger's Nest – one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas, which contains 13 sacred sites. In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong – now a national museum with an extensive antique collection of paintings, textiles and weapons. Overnight in Paro.

Day 18: Transfer to the airport to take a flight back to Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 19: Transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.
