A romantic tour around beautiful Kerala, with stays in Cochin, India's tea country, a houseboat in Alleppey and a beach break in Kovalam, including all travel and tours
If you've ever thought of visiting India, Kerala is a great place to start. This tranquil area, nestled between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, is known for its easy pace and laid-back vibe. Meander by boat through the region's extensive backwaters and simply laze on Kerala's beautiful beaches with this extensive tour, staying in three hotels and a houseboat en route.
Your first port of call is Cochin, known as the industrial capital of Kerala, where you'll stay for two nights. While here, you'll head out on a tour to take in some of the area's unique sights, including the Dutch Palace at Mattancherry and the Chinese fishing nets, plus the the oldest European church in India – St Francis – and the Jewish Synagogue.
Next, you'll head to Munnar, home to Kerala's verdant tea-growing region. With a traditional hotel nestled between two tea-clad hills as your base, you'll head out to India's first ever tea museum to learn of its fascinating history before taking in Mattupetty Dam, which affords panoramic views over the area.
It's on to Alleppey next, where you'll hop aboard an authentic 'Kettuvallam' for a night on Alleppey's lush backwaters. Watch the vistas roll by as you chill out in the open-air lounge or dine on Keralan favourites over breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Finally, wind things down with four nights right by the beach in Kerala’s Kovolam. Rejuvenate with an Ayurvedic therapy in the spa, splash between the swimming pools and take in some stunning views from the cliff top restaurant – The Leela offers it all. Once rested, you'll just have to conjure up enough get up and go to catch your flight home.
