Learn the true meaning of winter wonderland in the snowy surrounds of Norway and Lapland, with magical chances to see the Northern Lights, meet native white reindeer and traverse Lapland by train - with excursions, breakfast, some dinners and all travel

Day 1: UK - Oslo

Whizz from the UK to Norway’s capital, Oslo, ready for a winter adventure to rival all others. You’ll be staying just a snowball’s throw from the Opera House, and you’ll transfer there as soon as you land. (Meals: dinner)

Day 2: Oslo

Today you’ll have some time to explore Oslo at your leisure. Why not visit the 19th century Royal Palace and its manicured gardens, the Vigeland Sculpture Park, Folk Museum or Edvard Munch Museum. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)

Day 3: Oslo - Trondheim

You’ll be leaving Oslo today and heading north through the awe-inspiring winter landscapes of the Dovrefjell mountains and Dovrefjell-Sunnsalsfjella National Park. Arrive in Trondheim and settle in. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)

Day 4: Trondheim

Spend today exploring Trondheim at your own pace. Admire the Gothic Nidaros Cathedral or the colourful fjord-side houses, or hop on a ferry across to Munkholmen, a fort island-turned monastery. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Trondheim - Bodø

The winter adventure truly starts today, with a journey to Bodø on the Polar Express. Pass along mountains, lakes, coastlines and forests on your 452-mile journey, crossing the Arctic Circle on the way. You’ll arrive in Bodø and transfer to your hotel, then get ready for your first Northern Lights adventure this evening, which will take you by coach to a viewing point where you’ll have good chances of seeing these magical and ethereal dancing auroras. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)

Day 6: Bodø - Lofoten Islands

After a leisurely morning, you’ll board your Hurtigruten ship and sail to Svolvaer, the capital of the Lofoten Islands. These little islands are connected by bridge after bridge and are home to tiny communities living in charming and, of course, colourful little houses built on piles of timber. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Lofoten Islands

Spend your morning wandering the Lofoten Islands at leisure and trying to spot its incredible wildlife. Sea eagles, mink whales, puffins and moose all frequent these parts, so keep your eyes peeled. In the afternoon you’ll head out on another Northern Lights hunt (remember, if you’re travelling in the winter months you’re unlikely to see much daylight, if any, in this part of the world), then return for dinner at the Old Fish Oil Museum. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)

Day 8: Lofoten Island - Narvik

Soak up more Norwegian landscapes on the journey to Narvik, then spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring this city, which was occupied by the German in WWII. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)

Day 9: Narvik - Kiruna

Journey on one of the world’s most northerly railway lines, which was carved through mountains largely by hand, into Swedish Lapland. Settle into your hotel on arrival. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)

Day 10: Kiruna

This morning you’ll venture to Kiruna’s famous Ice Hotel, then spend the afternoon learning about local indigenous life at the ‘Sami experience’. Meet their adorable white reindeer, enjoy a feast in a traditional tent and listen to folk tales, then head out into the forest to catch a final glimpse of the Northern Lights. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 11: Kiruna - UK

Enjoy a final breakfast, then drive to the airport, where you’ll hop on a flight to Stockholm, then back to the UK. (Meals: breakfast)
