Kicking off in Delhi, you'll find an abundance of choice and price ranges across this frenetic metropolis to suit every curious appetite. On a thrilling street-food tasting tour, you'll hop on a rickshaw and be sensuously immersed in the thick of Asia’s largest wholesale spice market, Khari Baoli, that's been the aromatic breeding ground for spice businesses since the 17th century. After gazing at both Old and New Delhi's most splendid sights, you'll journey southeast to Lucknow.
The capital city of Uttar Pradesh exudes the Nawabi culture in every aspect of the day-to-day, the architecture, etiquette and cooking. Modern and steeped in its cultural past in equal measure, Lucknow is the place to discover Urdu poetry and Hindustani music at every turn. Heading out on a culinary walk, a city tour and a shopping tour here, you'll have ample chance to gaze at its mosques, palaces, mansions and mausoleums. Your stay has you sampling tasty finds from long-established roadside eateries, learning about the local, Mughal-inspired Awadhi cuisine, having a unique experience at a school canteen and getting stuck into an interactive dinner.
Next, it's west to Agra. You'll not only be stupefied by the splendour of the Taj Mahal at sunrise, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and see the mighty red Agra Fort, a UNESCO-listed site, but you'll also have the chance to eat speciality northwestern food traditionally with your hands, on an optional dinner out. The Mughal Empire's influence is powerful here in the food as well as the majestic buildings. You'll then travel further west yet to alluring Jaipur, known appealingly as the Pink City. After gazing at the Amber Fort, the five-storeyed Palace of Winds Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar Observatory and more, you'll spend an evening with a noble family of Jaipur, taking part in a cooking demonstration and sharing dinner together. You'll have the treat of being privy to a first-hand account of their ancestral cooking techniques.
You then have the choice to fly home with all your newfound cooking knowledge and get busy back in your kitchen, or to fly down to balmy Goa to ponder on your next culinary triumph while lazing by a golden beach for seven days. Good to know
