Scale wondrous Chile, from friendly Santiago to the north's lunar desert landscapes and lush lakes, waterfalls and forest down south - includes breakfast, superb tours and all travel

Day 1: UK/Ireland - night on board

Arrive at your UK/Ireland departure airport ready to check in for your overnight flight to Santiago, Chile. If your outbound flight leaves at dawn (before 4am) you must arrive at the airport the night before the selected departure day.

Day 2: Santiago

After checking into the hotel, spend the rest of the day at your leisure, exploring this beautiful city encircled by the Andes mountains and with a charming historic centre. We recommend strolling around the colonial centre and people-watching from one of the many café terraces.

Day 3: Santiago

Go on a city tour, from the cobblestoned neighbourhood of Lastarria, filled with greenery and 19th-century mansions, to Santa Lucia Hill where you'll capture amazing views. Then see Plaza de Armas, Santiago Cathedral, the La Moneda government house, impressive Plaza de la Constitución and busy Central Market. You'll also stop at Lapis Lazuli shop to admire local handicrafts and jewellery. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 4: Santiago - Calama - San Pedro de Atacama

Fly to Calama today and travel to San Pedro de Atacama, in the dusty plateaus of the Andes. On arrival, experience the breathtaking natural scenery surrounding the town.

Day 5: San Pedro de Atacama

The morning is at your disposal to relax or take an optional excursion to the Tatio Geysers and Machuca (surcharge). Afterwards, see the famous lunar terrain of Moon Valley just outside town, then Death Valley - home to the best views of the Andes Mountains and its towering volcanoes. At sunset, witness atmospheric red and golden tones over the landscape. Spend the evening at your leisure.

Day 6: San Pedro de Atacama

Enjoy a free day to relax at your own pace or get out into the otherworldly landscapes of the Atacama Desert to explore further. You could visit the Altiplanic lagoons (surcharge), a true natural spectacle.

Day 7: San Pedro de Atacama - Calama - Santiago

Fly back to Santiago today and spend the rest of the day exploring on your own steam. Perhaps sample world-famous Chilean wine at one of the local wine bars.

Day 8: Santiago - Valparaiso - Viña del Mar - Santiago

Embark on a full-day excursion to Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, two delightful coastal towns. You'll learn about Valparaíso's past as a key trading port and admire the colourful street art and harbour from the steep hills around the city. Continue to Viña del Mar, known for its wine production. Afterwards, return to Santiago.

Day 9: Santiago - Punta Arenas - Puerto Natales

Fly deep south to Puerto Arenas today and check into your waterside hotel in Puerto Natales, a once modest fishing port. See its pretty corrugated tin houses and cosy old-style lodgings.

Day 10: Puerto Natales - Torres del Paine National Park - Puerto Natales

Today you set foot in the world-famous Torres del Paine National Park, an icon of Chile's natural beauty. See Milodón Cave's ancient fossilised remains, Sofia Lagoon, Cordillera Prat, and more pristine natural landscapes. Take snaps at Gray Lake Viewpoint before lunch, then visit Nordenskjold Lake Viewpoint, Paine Waterfall and Amarga Lake. Catch an unmissable sunset at Sarmiento Lake Viewpoint before returning to Puerto Natales.

Day 11: Puerto Natales

Enjoy a day at your leisure. We recommend visiting the local public museum and enjoying the sea views across the islets and inlets from the unique Hand Monument. There's also an optional excursion to the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers (surcharge).

Day 12: Puerto Natales - Punta Arenas - Santiago

Fly back to Santiago and revisit your favourite city spots or do some final souvenir-shopping.

Day 13: Santiago - Night on board

Today, you'll reluctantly wave goodbye to unique Chile and fly home.
