A traditional Scottish country house hotel on the cusp of the Highlands, with two AA Rosette dining and genteel interiors - includes breakfast and a bottle of wine

The four-star Ballathie House Hotel was built in the 19th century and enjoys a tranquil setting on the banks of the River Tay, in an Aberdeen Angus farming estate in the heart of Scotland. With distinctively Scottish architecture of soaring conical turrets, it has had a recent refurbishment which has tastefully preserved period features and antique furnishings, to offer guests a flavour of the luxurious Scottish country estate.

Ballathie House Hotel is ideal if you're after fresh air and plenty of activities in the great outdoors. It's an excellent base for Highland walks, fishing and golfing - with the pick of Perthshire's many courses just a short drive away. Make sure you also take the time to explore the surrounding area - a visit to the Famous Grouse distillery is a must. Return from a long windswept walk to AA Rosette-awarded cuisine in the hotel restaurant, which prides itself on showcasing the finest produce of Scotland. The hotel recently won the Independent Hotel of the Year award at the CIS (Catering in Scotland) Excellence Awards 2014.
