A fabulously unique India holiday, with an elite Delhi stay and an opulent full-board Palace on Wheels train trip - includes an optional UAE beach break, tours and travel
Follow in the footsteps of royalty and relive the romance and glamour of a bygone era with this once-in-a-lifetime train journey around majestic Rajasthan. You’ll be staying aboard the aptly named Palace on Wheels train, once used by the Maharajas themselves as they journeyed through their magnificent kingdom. Exquisitely restored to the height of luxury, it’s been named by Condé Nast as the world’s fourth most luxurious train and has featured in many a TV documentary.
After landing in Delhi, you’ll rest up in five-star, colonial-era luxury at multi-award-winning heritage hotel The Imperial. It's all rich mahogany furniture and waiters dressed in handsome soldier-style red jackets at this colonial-like abode, that harks back to the regal decor of the Raj. What's more, you're within what-ho shouting distance of Jantar Mantar Observatory, only half an hour's walk from India Gate and close to the majestic Humayun's Tomb.
You’ll then board the Palace on Wheels for a week-long train adventure through Rajasthan. First stop is Jaipur, famously known as the Pink City, where you’ll enjoy a city tour, taking in the elegant Palace of Winds, the City Palace complex and the Royal Observatory, before ascending the palatial Amber Fort by Jeep. You'll move onto a thrilling jungle safari at Ranthambore National Park, before seeing the sights in Chittorgarh, Udaipur and Jaisalmer - the latter providing a unique sand-dune setting for a camel ride. After seeing the best of Mandore, you'll visit Keoladeo National Park near the ancient city of Bharatpur, before witnessing Agra Fort and the resplendent Taj Mahal.
After another spoiling night at The Imperial in Delhi, you then have the option to jet west across to the Middle East for a final fling of utmost luxury. Located on its own private stretch of fine ivory sand, the five-star Ajman Saray, a Luxury Collection Resort delivers impeccable service to its discerning clientele in a glorious coastal spot in the small emirate of Ajman, close to culture-rich Sharjah and under an hour's drive from the centre of Dubai.
Good to know
All sightseeing tours are by deluxe coach, with knowledgable English-speaking guides. Entrance fees to monuments and museums are all included. The Ranthambore National Park is closed in September, so guests travelling over this time will instead be taken to the Mansigh Wildlife Sanctuary. Over some dates the Palace on Wheels train will be replaced with the newly built Royal Rajasthan on Wheels train.
Your outbound flights are overnight and your inbound flights may also be overnight, so please bear this in mind when planning the time you'll be away for.
