The Grange Hotel
York, North Yorkshire
A characterful 19th-century boutique hotel in central York with breakfast included
When you're visiting a city as historic and beautiful as York, you need somewhere to stay that fits the tone - no minimalist box will cut it here. You need ivy tangling its way up the heavy stone walled exterior, roaring fireplaces, dramatic high ceilings and gold-framed portraits to survey the grandeur of the room. And that's exactly what you'll find at the luxurious Grange Hotel.
Just half a mile and a 10-minute walk from the city centre, The Grange Hotel is a Grade II listed building, built in 1830. Solid and imposing from the outside and filled with luxe boutique Regency design inside, it's a heavenly base for a trip to York. The grand lounges offer a cosy spot for a post-shopping chill out and dining here is a feast of good old British home-cooking in The Ivy Restaurant, plus there's plenty of delicious things for carnivores in The Brasserie.
Using the hotel as a glamorous base, you'll be able to explore the sights of York, from the numerous high-end designer shops, independent boutiques and excellent drinking and dining options to the narrow cobbled streets of The Shambles, the pretty Museum Gardens, afternoon tea at Bettys (a must-do!) and the majestic York Minster cathedral.
Rooms at the Grange Hotel are elegant and classical in their decor. All are individually designed in a light and airy style and boast bold boutique design with floral prints, stripes, rich colours and plump comfortable beds. All have en-suite bathrooms with ceramic tiling, large showers and fluffy bath towels.

The Grange boasts two fantastic restaurants, both of which are open to residents and non-residents alike and are popular with locals for their hearty, modern cuisine and great ambiance.
The Ivy Restaurant is the smarter of the two, though it still maintains a warm and unpretentious vibe. Its modern British and continental menu prepared from fresh, locally-sourced produce has bagged it two AA Rosettes. There's also an extensive and finely selected wine menu and roasts are available on Sundays.
The Brasserie is a more relaxed option. Sports matches are shown on plasma screens on the walls and hearty fish and meat dishes are served as well as some vegetarian options. Located in the Grange's original brick vaulted cellars, The Brasserie is always an atmospheric place for a meal.
Afternoon tea is served in the morning room. Enjoy a selection of cakes and sandwiches with tea and coffee in the traditional English style.
The Grange is located in the heart of York. One of the oldest cities in the country, York is a popular tourist destination for shopping (and for good reason) but it usually draws the crowds for its historical sites. York Minister is a definite highlight and is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe and is immaculately preserved.
Another site not to be missed are the city walls, which are in quite a remarkable state of repair and afford some great views over the city. Whilst there, be sure to check out the fantastic National Railway Museum and The Eboracum Legion bathhouse, which provides a great spot to have lunch, as well as catching a glimpse into the ancient history of the city. One of the top destinations in York - in fact in the north of England - is the Jorvik Viking Centre, a Viking age reconstruction of streets of the city as they would've looked 1,000 years ago.
Travel is NOT included in this offer.
