Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel
Five-star Georgian hotel and spa built in elegant mellow-stone, with AA Rosette-awarded dining and a luxury spa - includes breakfast
Famous for its graceful Georgian architecture, Bath has long been one of England's most fashionable cities. The 18th century Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel, once a privately-owned mansion, retains every ounce of the property's original grandeur; with handsome antiques, fine paintings and classical pillars setting the scene for a timelessly chic stay.
Close to the Roman Baths and Pump Room, this refined residence overlooks seven acres of its own landscaped grounds, just a short stroll from the city's beautiful centre. Languish in the stately surrounds of stone fountains, cedar trees and twirling topiary, with a two AA Rosette-awarded restaurant to tempt you indoors for classic dining. There's also an elegant spa with an indoor pool, a whirlpool tub and a thermal suite, which was awarded four bubbles by the Good Spa Guide.
The rooms at Macdonald Bath Spa have an air of luxury and refinement that can be difficult to achieve. You certainly won't forget that you're sleeping in a historic mansion, yet the furnishings confidently place the hotel up against the city's flourishing new-luxury hotels.
All rooms feature:
- Flatscreen LCD TV
- Ironing facilities
- Large desk
- Tea/coffee making facilities
- Wi-Fi access
- Trouser press
The hotel's finest dining room is Vellore, which has given new purpose to the mansion's former ballroom. The award-winning menu focuses on seasonal British ingredients, matched with a well-chosen selection of wines. The grilled 21-day aged Scottish rib of beef on the bone, carved at your table, is the restaurant's signature dish and feeds two. Another must is taking lunch amongst the classical pillars and leafy plants of the Colonnade Bar and Lounge, where you can enjoy a bespoke salad after a swim in the spa.
As you might expect from a five-star retreat in the spa town of Bath, the wellness facilities here are alone worth the journey. Rated 'Four Bubbles' out of five by The Good Spa Guide and described as "the perfect place to relax and get pampered" by Condé Nast Traveller, the hotel features a chic indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, outdoor hydrotherapy pool and thermal suite to pad down to in your white robe and slippers.
Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel is located just a mile from Bath station and sandwiched between the green surrounds of Sydney Gardens and Bath Golf Club (amongst other courses). It takes just a 15-minute walk over the river to reach the Roman Baths and the Pump Room (which doubles up as an excellent tea room). The hotel has its own car park.
