Appleby Manor prides itself on its fine cuisine. In recognition of this the AA has awarded the restaurant (The Oak Room) a Rosette - which makes Appleby Manor Country House Hotel one of the best dining experiences in the Lake District region. Awards for the restaurant have come from a variety of bodies including the AA, RAC and Egon Ronay guides. Locally sourced, fresh ingredients are used to create a varying menu of traditional Cumbrian dining. The hotel also has a fine selection of wines and whiskies - a perfect tipple after a day in walking boots.
The hotel features a modest but excellently-maintained leisure club, which features a plunge pool, infra-red sauna, Turkish bath, jacuzzi and vertical solarium. Neat and fabulously relaxing, it's the perfect way to wind up all that wholesome outdoor activity.
The hotel is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in England, so do pack some suitably rural attire. The Lake District National Park is situated 12 miles from the estate, and the Pennines, with High-Cup-Nick and Murton Fell, are just four miles away. Historic Appleby Castle is just a five-minute drive away, as well as a number of quaint market towns and villages, with pretty tea rooms and charming pubs.
